Christmas

Posted by: bangor

December is very definitely here and Christmas draws near- as it starts to snow you may not want to go- out and about but let there be no doubt- that list isn’t getting shorter as you crush it in your fist- and you wish in desperation that there wasn’t such depth to your procrastination- if there was only a shop where you could get it all in one stop- though I don’t want to be cliché I think maybe we could save your day- using a old familiar: “Never fear Mr. Paperback is here!”

Okay, so maybe that was a little over the top and I may want to stop with all the rhyming (right now would give me impeccable timing) but I just read that all aloud and made everyone within earshot smile so I hope at least you’re smiling back at me through your computer screen. We couldn’t claim to have everything on your list but we can claim to have something for everyone on your list. The topics covered by the many books and periodicals are as myriad and diverse as the people you’re trying to buy for so you’re sure to find what you need.

For those that love to read we have science fiction, fantasy, history, romance, westerns, poetry, and vampires galore as well as many more genres to interest your typical book reader. If they like something or some author in particular we can help you find something similar in order to surprise them.  Alternately if you’re at a loss for what to get them you can get a gift card so they can pick out something for themselves. For the child or young person in your life we have a wide selection of children‘s books for all ages from toddler to tween and young adult as well.

For those on your list who aren’t really interested in reading for the sake of reading you can find them a book that covers their interest. If they’re a crafty sort pick them up a crafting book or magazine. If they’re into wrestling we carry WWE Magazine. If they like cars and trucks we have books and magazines about that. If they like animals or gardening we have you covered there as well. If they have a favorite celebrity you could find them a biography or entertainment book about that person. If they’re a wannabe guitar hero you could get them a book to teach them some real chords. If they really don’t like to do any kind of reading you could set them up with a puzzle book or even a coloring book.

If you’re not out to get books at all we still have a wide range of gift items to choose from. Plushies, Webkinz,  picture frames, lotion, book lights, magnifiers, plaques, decorative items, candles, ornaments, greeting cards and so many more things that if I listed them all you’d never have time to get your shopping done. So as we count down the days until the big day I hope you keep us in mind for your shopping needs and Christmas gift lists.

I’d like to wish you a Merry Christmas (or whatever December tradition you celebrate) and Happy New Year from the staff at Mr. Paperback.

Halloween

Posted by: bangor

Hello banshees and ghouls, girls and boys, and good night to you all. As we come upon that night called All Hallows Eve, Samhain , or ( most fondly, perhaps) Halloween it is time to prepare for this most peculiar night of the year. Goblins will be gathering their ghastly tricks to play when asked the immortal question of ‘trick-or-treat’ but our typically more human patrons will need to make typically more human preparations. To that end we have decorations to deaden up your dining room or festoon on your fence posts to scare gallivanting false-faced costume-wearers that show up at your door. There are also wands for your warlock, perfect black cat companions for your wee little witches, and stuffed ravens with which you can quote ‘nevermore’. If you need a Halloweeny gift we sport spiders for that special someone, pumpkin plushies for your pumpkin, skeletons to make her scream, appropriately-themed key chains for your kind fellow, decorative decals for the dervishing devil, and jewelry for your gem. We have cards to greet ghosts with or give best wishes to Halloween babies. If you need to replenish your supply of spooky true ghost stories to scare munchkins with there are plenty in stock. Or if you’re looking for a horror book to put yourself in the mood for the holiday those can be found in abundance here as well. Or if your needs run more toward votives in order to commune with the dead on Samhain we can still help you out with that. As always we have our usual accoutrements you can acquire.  Just so long as you’re not looking for eye of newt, toe of toad, delicious gray matter, or a fresh infusion of human blood we can cover your Halloween holiday needs.

Back to School

Posted by: bangor

“It sucks big time,” your teenager might say but it’s getting to be that time of year once more. That dreaded back-to-school time much more terrifying than any horror movie. And with back-to-school thoughts often inevitably comes the panicky “I haven’t done my summer reading” confessions and the mad dash to pick up those and other necessary books ensues. If you have those kinds of back-to-school blues and desperately need two fiction novels longer than two hundred pages, a book by a Maine author, and a biography you wish you had known about before we’d be more than happy to help you find them. Or if pocket dictionaries, desktop thesauruses, SAT prep guides, and anatomy quick references are on your must-have shopping list you can get those here as well.  How about a puzzle book (or two, or three, or four) if you need to take up the time waiting in a long add/drop line? Maybe even a light-hearted sympathy card could go over well for the reluctant student or teacher in your life. Or, if back-to-school is just another phrase for you, you’re more than welcome to come on in and pick up a gift, romance novel, Archie comic, or woodworking guide just like any other time of year.
